Deep tropical moisture will up the chances for rain across Central Florida this week with heavy showers expected by the afternoon on Labor Day, according to the National Weather Service.

“Numerous showers and storms are expected across east Central Florida in the afternoon,” the NWS said in its Monday forecast. “Storms and heavy showers could produce locally heavy rainfall leading to flooding, as well as occasional lightning and gusty winds. A Moderate risk for rip currents continues at all Central Florida Atlantic beaches.”

Downbursts with 40-45 mph winds will be possible where frontal boundaries occur, the NWS stated, and some areas could get up to 4 inches of rain.

Temperatures will be in the upper 80s and lower 90s regionwide and heat indexes could climb to between 100-105.

Later this week will continue to see higher chances for rain as a front may stall over Central Florida.
