Hurricane Milton is likely to form in the Gulf of Mexico and move toward landfall somewhere along the coast of Florida, then move east across the state, according to the latest forecasts.
The potential path is wide, covering much of the state from the Panhandle to South Florida, as well as Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade counties. A slower storm would likely be stronger and further north — possibly close to Category 3 strength near Tampa — and a faster storm would be weaker and hit further south. Regardless of development, heavy and prolonged rains are expected across the Florida peninsula.
